Prayershake is a private, invite-led place to pray with people you know. There is no public feed, and we do not sell your personal information or use it for third-party advertising.
1. Who we are
Prayershake (“Prayershake”, “we”, “us” or “our”) provides the Prayershake mobile application, website, and related services (together, the “Service”). Prayershake is the controller of the personal information described in this policy unless we say otherwise.
Questions or requests about privacy can be sent to support@prayershake.com.
2. Information we collect
Account and profile information
We collect your phone number to create and secure your account and send one-time verification codes. You may also provide a display name, profile picture, time zone, and notification preferences.
Prayer content and activity
We process the prayer causes you create, the people included in them, spoken-prayer recordings you choose to make, reminders, prayer and listening activity, streaks, thank-yous, invitations, reports, and blocks. This information is linked to your account so the Service can work across your devices and for the invited people in each prayer.
Your prayer content is not public. A cause and its shared audio are available only to the people included in that prayer, subject to safety, support, and legal access described below.
Contacts you choose
If you allow contact access, the app reads your address book on your device so you can find someone to mention or invite. We do not upload your address book in bulk. Only the name and phone number of a contact you deliberately choose may be sent to and stored by Prayershake for that feature.
Device, diagnostics, and usage information
We may collect your app version, device and operating-system details, push-notification token, network and request metadata, crash reports, and limited product-interaction events. These events describe actions such as completing sign-in, starting or finishing a prayer, setting a reminder, or sharing an invitation. They are designed not to contain prayer text, contact names, phone numbers, verification codes, or audio.
We use PostHog for first-party product analytics and crash diagnostics. PostHog analytics and diagnostics may be linked to our internal user ID, but are not used to follow you across other companies’ apps or websites. Session replay is not enabled for production users as of the date of this policy. If we introduce it, we will update this notice and provide any consent or choice required by law before recording begins.
Information you send us
If you contact support, we collect your message and any details or attachments you choose to send. Please do not email us verification codes or private prayer recordings.
3. How and why we use information
We use personal information to:
- create and secure accounts, verify phone numbers, and keep you signed in;
- store and deliver prayer causes, recordings, invitations, reminders, and notifications;
- show shared activity to the people included in a prayer;
- provide support, investigate reports, enforce our Terms of Service, and keep the Service safe;
- diagnose faults, understand feature use, and improve reliability and accessibility; and
- meet legal, security, accounting, and regulatory obligations.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of our contract with you to provide the Service; our legitimate interests in operating, securing, supporting, and improving it; your consent where we ask for it (including device permissions); and compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent through your device settings or by contacting us, but this does not affect earlier lawful processing.
4. Device permissions
Prayershake asks only when a feature needs access:
- Microphone: to record spoken prayers and voice reflections you choose to make.
- Contacts: to help you choose someone to pray for or invite. Your full address book stays on your device.
- Photos or camera: if you choose to add or change a profile picture.
- Notifications: to send reminders and let you know about activity in prayers you share.
You can change these permissions in your phone’s settings. Some related features may stop working, but you can continue using other parts of the app.
6. Retention and security
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. We may keep some records for longer where reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, legal compliance, backups, or enforcing our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.
We use technical and organisational measures designed to protect information in transit and at rest and to limit access to people and providers who need it. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so please protect your device and sign-in codes and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.
7. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask us to:
- provide a copy of personal information we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- delete your information;
- restrict or object to certain processing;
- provide information in a portable format; or
- explain or review a decision made solely by automated means, if we ever make one that significantly affects you.
You can also switch off contacts, microphone, photos, or notifications in your device settings. To make a data request or close your account, email support@prayershake.com. We may need to verify that the request is yours.
If you are in the UK, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. If you live elsewhere, you may have the right to contact your local data-protection authority. We would appreciate the chance to address your concern first.
8. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, please contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action. A parent or guardian should supervise a young person’s use where local law requires it.
9. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the Service or law changes. We will post the revised version here and change the “Last updated” date. If a change materially affects how we use personal information, we will provide additional notice where appropriate.
